XP.....upgrade or clean install?
No real problems with it, but think it is about time to upgrade to Windows XP. On the Dell Forum, I asked about this and it was recommended to do a "clean install" of Windows XP, rather than doing an upgrade. Is that really the best way to do this? Appreciate any comments on this. Thank you.

Many people prefer to do a clean install as opposed to an upgrade. However if your present system seems to be running fine then why not try an upgrade first? You have nothing to lose by doing so except an hour of your time. If the upgrade takes successfully great if not then you can do a clean install.

Clean install vs. Upgrade
I just did a clean install of Win98, upgrade version. All I had to do was supply my Win95 upgrade CD. That will work as will the original Win 3.1 disks. No need to buy the full version if you have the CDs/disks of the previous versions. Are you sure about this? You are telling me that you can reformat your HD,

Upgrade from sbs4.5 - clean install of sbs2000
I strongly recommend to never upgrade from different releases. I do not even do a do a version upgrade. Clean install for me every time. Scott, yes, the upgrade keeps the old location for the profiles, while the fresh installation creates a new folder named Documents and Settings. Should I do an upgrade or a clean install and then set up the users/permissions settings? You can do whatever you like. I, for one, always upgrade (since Windows 2.1).

I've seen it mentioned in the ng that an upgrade is preferable to a clean install since any OEM-installed drivers would be maintained and may eliminate potential problems with OEM hardware.
